The series would follow Morpheus, or Dream, and his family of the Endless, who consist of Destiny, Death, Destruction, Despair, Desire, and Delirium. As various powerful beings of the universe, they often intersect with DC Comics characters, such as John Constantine, the Batman villain Scarecrow, and Martian Manhunter. The integration with the DC Universe, however, could change in the television show.

Gaiman himself is reportedly not involved, though the Hollywood Reporter suspects that this could change when the project is in its later stages. Let’s hope.

Who? The site goes further, “For a bit of context, Radagast is a wizard who, in The Fellowship of the Ring, unwittingly lures his ally, Gandalf, into a trap set by Saruman. Will they show the off-page battle between the wizards and the Necromancer as part of the book’s expansion into two movies?” Despite the character’s role in The Lord of the Rings, Radagast did not appear in the Peter Jackson films.

Nice to see that casting could be underway, but fans still yearn to find out who will be taking over from Ian Holm to play Bilbo (and if this film has a chance of getting made when/if the studio gets its act together).

The official synopsis is below:

“Age of the Dragons is an adaptation of Herman Melville’s classic novel Moby Dick. Set in a medieval realm where Captain Ahab and crew hunt dragons for the vitriol that powers their world, Ishmael, a charismatic harpooner joins their quest. Ahab’s adopted daughter Rachel, beautiful and tough, runs the hunting vessel. Ahab’s obsession is to seek revenge on a great ‘White Dragon’ that slaughtered his family when he was young and left his body scarred and mauled, drives the crew deeper into the heart of darkness. In the White Dragon’s lair Ahab’s secrets are revealed and Rachel must choose between following him on his dark quest or escaping to a new life with Ishmael.”

Danny Glover plays Captain Ahab and young actors Corey Sevier and Sofia Pernas play Ishmael and Rachel, respectively. Vinnie Jones also is part of the cast as the medieval version of character Stubbs. Readers of Melville’s novel will note that, while Ahab does not have an adopted daughter named Rachel on board the ship, there is an additional ship called The Rachel that plays an important role in the book.

One MuggleNet reader, Gaby, called the film “very perfect. I don’t remember feeling this satisfied with a Harry Potter movie since Chamber of Secrets. By this, I mean that the experience of seeing this movie almost exactly mirrored my experience reading the book all those three years ago… I cannot wait to see this movie again.”

Another MuggleNet reader, Kyle, assured others that although the house elf Dobby has been absent from the films since Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the character’s presence was a positive addition to the film: ”The audience LOVED Dobby. Everyone was clapping when we saw him.”

While one /Film commenter enjoyed the film, he felt it suffered from “the book’s own problems,” particularly in the camping scenes.

He went on to comment that he knew his career would go downhill since the trilogy. ”Christopher Lee said it was the biggest thing he had ever done, and he has made more films than any other actor so you can’t go anywhere from it. I think once you get that in your head, that you’re not going to do anything bigger, you just do things that you enjoy, which has always been my ethos anyway. Rather than thinking, ‘If I do this, and in five years I’ll be where I want to be’, you’re better just doing something that makes you happy now.”

Still, that doesn’t mean Boyd has quit acting. Next up for the performer will be in the musical Sunshine on Leith, based on the music by The Proclaimers.
