New Line Cinema is set to produce a new version of the classic Christmas tale, The Nutcracker. The film is based on the book, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, by ETA Hoffman.

Darren Lemke will write the screenplay about a twelve-year-old girl who goes on an adventure with her Nutcracker doll, a seven-headed mouse king, and his rodent army.  It is said to be a family action-adventure similar to The Chronicles of Narnia.
