This week, Disney premiered the trailer of the upcoming video game adaptation Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for a lucky few in Santa Monica.  One of them was Steve Weintraub, who gave the footage a rave review at Collider.

“It’s easily the most expensive video game-based movie ever made and this could be the film that shows Hollywood what they need to do to make [a video game] adaptation that works.  As I watched, I felt like they’ve mixed a Lord of the Rings type quest with the fun atmosphere of a Pirates of the Caribbean movie.”

Steve also shared that the move incorporates several aspects of the video game, including the Prince jumping from ledges and, in another scene, using the Dagger of Time.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time stars Jake Gyllenhaal as the title hero, Gemma Arterton as Princess Tamina, and Ben Kingsley as the villain Nizam.  It will premiere on Memorial Day Weekend next year.
